Issue 177 - What can the pillar cam see?
This week we’re partnering with Supercharged Accessories (@lightmytesla) to give away this awesome LED Lighting Bundle for your Tesla (Model 3 or Y). Head out to Twitter to participate, good luck! ⚡🍀
Great video from Whole Mars Catalog.
This is what release notes should be, and not “minor bug fixes and improvements”. Thank you, Elon, for tweeting the internal release notes.
FSD Beta v9.2 got released last week, great commentary in this video by Chuck Cook.
There has been some chatting lately about the pillar cameras and what the car can see at the intersections. The video from the pillar cameras isn’t recorded as part of Sentry or TeslaCam, but Greentheonly has published a few screenshots and videos of what the camera can see. Given the angle, the cars would need to peek a bit into the intersection to see the cars coming, what do you think?
For me, the SoC predictions were a bit too conservative; for others like Greentheonly, it’s the other way around. It seems that they have gotten way more accurate in recent versions.
A great in-depth review by Doug DeMuro. Go to 31:58 to see his reaction to the acceleration 😂 “It is nothing that I’ve ever driven, ever, ever!”
Batteries and Gigafactories
A lot of people make arguments about how dirty EVs are because batteries and their chemicals end up in landfills. In Tesla’s 2020 Impact Report, the company states that 100% of its scrapped batteries are recycled, and 0% end up in landfills. Great to see this!
If you are close by, it seems like a great opportunity to check it out!
💡 Tip of the week
You can shift between drive and reverse without pressing the brake as long as the car is going under 5 mph (8 km/h).
🤓 What the acronym?
As Tesla fan I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.
- EV - Electric Vehicle
- FSD - Full Self-Driving
- SoC - State of Charge
