Issue 321 - FSD transfer offer is back

Software Updates

Tesla to introduce avoid highways navigation option

Tesla plans to implement an ‘Avoid Highways’ feature in their navigation system, providing an option many users have requested. The new routing choice will allow drivers to take alternative paths, such as inner-city or country roads, and will be designed in-house for energy efficiency and to consider charging stops. While this feature is in development, it will offer drivers, especially those in semi-rural areas or maybe an option for the future robo-taxi.

The Tesla Cybertruck Is getting big charging improvements in upcoming software update

Tesla’s lead engineer for the Cybertruck, Wes Morrill, announced an upcoming OTA software update on X to enhance the vehicle’s charging curve. This update, particularly aimed at improving charge rates for vehicles arriving at Superchargers with low batteries, could increase replenishment rates to 154 miles in 15 minutes. Details on whether the update applies to both the dual-motor and tri-motor versions remain unspecified.

Tesla owners have observed a ‘Spotify DJ’ feature appearing in the recommended feed of their vehicles. However, attempts to access it seem to be met with an API error, so it might be an unintended addition or perhaps we should see it soon.

Hardware Updates

Tesla to test Michelin's innovative sustainable airless tires

Tesla is in talks with Michelin to trial their revolutionary Uptis (Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System) airless tires, which promise to last thrice as long as standard tires and resist punctures with their innovative structure. These eco-friendly tires also aim to reduce road pollution and tire waste. Michelin has been working with GM on testing these tires and may introduce them to the market by year’s end.

Tesla AI

Tesla AI supercluster to reach over 500 MW power

Elon Musk announces plans to expand Tesla’s AI supercluster to over 500 MW, potentially making it the largest in the world, with a mix of Tesla AI hardware and Nvidia technology. This move aims to power the company’s AI training needs, with the supercluster being part of the expansion at Gigafactory Texas. Additionally, Tesla’s AI5 (formerly HW5) computer, set for release in the latter half of the year, is said to possess ten times the capability of the current HW4.

Cooling system update at Tesla's Giga Texas

Tesla is making notable progress on the construction of a significant cooling mechanism for their new GPU data center at Giga Texas, with updates showcasing the installation of massive fans. This data center is anticipated to drive computing workloads for Tesla’s growing suite of AI tasks.

FSD

Chuck Cook puts Tesla FSD v12.4.1 to the UPL challenge

huck Cook, a well-known Tesla FSD beta tester, put the latest Full Self-Driving update, v12.4.1, to the ultimate test at his notorious unprotected left turn (UPL) in Florida. Despite needing to intervene a couple of times for safety, Cook’s tests show that FSD now makes quicker, more refined decisions, representing an improvement over earlier versions.

FSD transfer is back

As we advanced last week, Tesla is making the FSD (Full Self-Driving) transfer program available again this quarter, allowing buyers of any new Tesla model between June 24 and August 31, 2024, to transfer their existing FSD for free. This deal is an added sweetener on top of existing incentives, and the good news – there’s no trade-in requirement for the previously FSD-equipped vehicle
