Issue 155 - Testing Tesla's acceleration boost

Model S

Tesla updates its mobile app to add refresh Model S

In what one would assume means the refresh Model S deliveries will start soon, Tesla just released a new version of its mobile app that contains the assets to display the new version of a car. Have you ordered one? Do you have a delivery date? Let us know!

Plaid and Plaid+ with torque vectoring

Good catch by u/AndrasHatvani, the upgrades listed on tesla.com for the Plaid and Plaid+ versions include ‘Torque Vectoring’. If you don’t know what this means, and I have to confess I didn’t either before reading this, it means that it will come with a motor on each rear wheel, allowing the car to overdrive the outside wheel and pull the car when turning.

Delivery estimate from Model S Plaid+ changes to mid 2022

It used to say end of 2021 and now it’s mid 2022. I’m not sure if demand is really high or if they are just delaying it, interesting nonetheless.

Model 3/Y

Drag Race: Putting Tesla's acceleration boost to the test

New(ish) Model 3s and Model Ys can get faster via software updates 🤯🤯. Here is a video comparing two Model Ys, one with and one without the acceleration boost. I didn’t know that after purchasing the boost the labels in the acceleration options change to chill and sport, cool!

Model Y 5 vs 7 seat video comparison

Probably. Said Elon Musk on Twitter. The focus right now is on making progress with the actual Giga Texas, which is where the awaited Cybertruck will be built.

Jeda's Model Y/3 new console tray

Really cool new accessory from our friends at Jeda. This new console tray, for the pre 2021 interior, not only holds all your belongings but also charges your Apple Watch and/or Airpods. Use the code “tesletter” to get $20 off. Enjoy!

Model Y pop open mount for the tow hitch

I thought this was a really ingenious idea and wanted to share it (sorry, you need to be a member of the Facebook group to be able to watch this video). This Tesla owner used the cover of the tow hitch to be able to remove it without the tools. The mount is held by two magnets and pops out when you press it.

FSD Beta

Impressive night ride with FSD Beta 8.2

FSD Beta is getting crazy good, watch this video in Chesnut St, in San Francisco.

FSD Beta has now been expanded to ~2000 owners

Elon just tweeted a few days ago that the FSD Beta has now been expanded to more drivers, and they have also removed folks who weren’t paying attention from the EAP. I hope this doesn’t mean the ‘Download Beta’ button won’t be there for the rest… we will see in a couple of days, I guess.

FSD Beta 8.2 - Left unprotected turns with drone 3rd person view

Software version 2021.4.11.1. Nice idea giving the point of view of the drone 👏👏👏

What the acronym?

As Tesla fan I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • FSD - Full Self-Driving
  • HW3 - Autopilot Hardware version 3
  • MCU 2 - Media Control Unit 2. Has a more powerful Intel x86_64 processor. All Model 3 have this version as well as the Model S and Model X built after the end of March 2018.
