Issue 310 - New Autopark looks awesome!

Incentives

One-month FSD trial for all capable US Tesla cars

Tesla announced that all new deliveries will come with 1 month of free FSD Tesla and an orientation. Right after, Elon mentioned on Twitter that this won’t be exclusive to new owners; existing owners of FSD-capable vehicles in the U.S. will get the same 1-month free trial as well. This is great news for those curious about FSD features, offering quite the opportunity to try it out without an upfront commitment. Alhough, I have to say, the price of the feature might still be too high for many at its current price point.

Tesla buyer incentive: free 1 year premium connectivity

If you use someone else’s code now, you will also get 1 year of free premium connectivity on top of the 3 month FSD subscription, and other incentives that might be running at the time.

New Autopark

Tesla's new 'Tap to Park' autopark feature

Tesla introduces an updated ‘Tap to Park’ Autopark feature, accessible via update 2024.2.11, currently to employees. This enhancement is expected to rely on the neural networks driving FSD Beta v12, providing better detection and selection of parking spots and streamlining the process with simple screen-tap activation. Many are asking for functionality like the old summon one where the owner was able to exit the vehicle before the maneuver.

Parallel parking on new autopark feature

Great video demonstrating how it works in this case. I can’t wait to try it!

Software Updates

Tesla's High Fidelity Vision Park Assist gains impressive accuracy

The owner just stopped when the car showed “stop,” and by measuring the distance, they found it was a bit over 12 inches from the garage door, pretty accurate!

Tesla revises impact of late-night driving on Safety Score

Tesla’s Safety Score has undergone revision in its latest update, Version 2.1, specifically altering how late-night driving between 11 PM and 4 AM affects a driver’s score. In the recent change, late-night driving is weighted differently depending on the hour, with 2 AM driving having a more significant impact than 11 PM.

Cybertruck

Living with the Tesla Cybertruck - MKBHD

MKBHD shared his experience of driving and living with the Tesla Cybertruck for nearly 1,000 miles, including how much attention it attracts and some issues with panel gaps. He touches on technical aspects like the truck’s 800-volt architecture and suspension, steering innovations—including steer-by-wire and variable steering ratios—and the fact that Autopilot is not yet available for the Cybertruck.

Tesla adds six new Cybertruck wrap colors

Tesla Cybertruck enthusiasts can now choose from six additional wrap colors, making a total of eleven options to personalize their ride. The new colors are Forest Green, Satin Crimson Red, Iridescent Purple, Tactical Green, Satin Dark Grey, and Copper Tinted Clear.

Tinkering

Tesla Optimus Bot set for Gigafactory testing

Tesla advances its Optimus robot program with a new job posting for a Technical Program Manager, aimed at piloting the AI-powered bipedal robot within its manufacturing facilities. Is Tesla ready to start using Optimus for some tasks around the factories?

Tesla hackers receive $200k and Model 3 for new exploit

Whitehat hackers from Synacktiv have earned $200,000 and a Tesla Model 3 after successfully exploiting a vulnerability involving Tesla’s ECU and vehicle CAN BUS at the Pwn2Own event in Vancouver. These types of incentives are really important—and many others in the tech industry have programs/rewards like this—and it underscores Tesla’s approach to automotive cybersecurity. It highlights a proactive stance that rewards hackers for beefing up Tesla’s defenses against potential ‘fleet-wide hacks’—a scenario Elon Musk has previously expressed concerns about.

🤓 What the acronym?

As Tesla fan I find myself sometimes having to remember what are all those acronyms, here is a list of the ones you can find in this issue.

  • ECU: Paint Protection Film
  • FSD: Full Self-Driving
